Get Oreo Launcher on Any Android Device, Not Only Nexus & Pixel

Lately, Google announced the most recent iteration of Android called Android Oreo and promised to push it out to Pixel and Nexus gadgets as soon as it is released. Sadly, for other Android devices owners, there is no guarantee when Oreo will be available for their devices.

There is no compelling reason to fear, though. Some developers have found a way to get the Android Oreo Launcher to other devices it ordinarily wouldn't be accessible on. They ported the new Pixel 2.0 or Oreo Launcher to an APK file that can be installed on any Android smartphone. In the event that you are worried, it doesn’t even require root.
We previously covered topics like Android Oreo features and everything about Android Oreo. Don't forget to check them out.

Reddit user Amir Z and one Android developer DeleteScape could get this package to work on a number of non-Pixel or Nexus Android smartphones that can't normally get this update from the Play Store. Gratefully, this is not very difficult to do now. To install the Oreo Launcher on your Android device, it just takes a couple of simple steps. Let’s see how to do it.

#1. First of all, you need to permit the installation of applications from unknown sources on your phone. To do this, go to Settings and tap Security. Once there, discover Unknown Sources and slide the bar to one side to turn it on.

#2. Then go to the GitHub page using the button below:

#3. Once there tap the Rootless Pixel Launcher 2.1 update and select the Launcher3-aosp-debug.apk download link.

#4. After successful download, tap it and afterward tap install.

#5. Once the launcher is successfully installed, tap the home button and select Always for Launcher3, so that Launcher3 will run each time you hit the home button. This essentially sets Launcher3 as your default launcher.

#6. Now, turn on notifications for Launcher3 when you are prompted.

If you are not satisfied with this launcher then here is how to uninstall it or undo installation:

  • Go to Settings, then open Apps. Once there, find the Launcher3 application and select it.

  • Tap Open by default and tap the Clear defaults button. When you go back by hitting the back button, you will be able to uninstall Launcher3.

Summing up!

The Oreo Launcher is not that vastly different from the Nougat Launcher. There are little, unpretentious changes that make the new Oreo Launcher marginally better. Since the self-install is so easy to do, and fix, you should try it out.
